THE REASON WHY…!
I get the question so many times… Why did you become a photographer, Why do you go out in bad weather, Why do something that you might never get rich off… Well… Because of passion… I have a massive passion for what I do… I can not go a week..or make that 2 days… without heading out with my gear to try to capture something that will make me happy!
I do not do it to please others.. Though I will admit that I feel good when people make comments that they like my work or when someone wants to buy my prints… But I do it because I love it…! I feel the sense of accomplishment when I get the shot that I have been dreaming of getting… And I get butterflies in my stomach when I am heading to a location that I have dreamt of shooting or that I really like being at… Like the westfjords of Iceland for example… Or mountain Vestrahorn in the east of Iceland.
Heading out in bad weather, or what most people call bad weather, makes me have to work a bit more for the shot… I like to be challenged and usually the pictures and videos that come from a day like that fit my “style” better! But ofcourse I dont always get the shots that I wanted because the weather is to bad or the wind direction is blowing the waterfall in my face and covering the lens…I absolutely love that too though, the feeling of the cold water hitting my face. And if I dont get the shot, I have a reason to come back to that location to try again!
When I decided to follow my passion and quit my day job it never crossed my mind that I would get very far..it was a dream though, or become rich… But.. I got much further faster than I ever dreamt of… Probably because I was always out there shooting and people, that decided to support my journey felt how passionate I was as a photographer.
I think I am actually quite rich… because I have the possibility of doing what I love… And people, companies and bands hire me to take care of their concepts… So in that way I am definatly filthy rich.. And I have a beautiful family that supports me in so many ways… So yeah.. I am rich!
The best part of my journey is that I have proofed to people that doubted me, that they were wrong… So many voices said that I would never make it and that there is no reason to follow that path because you can never survive on just taking pictures… well… How about now? Haha!
Again.. I am a small town boy from a 250 people village in the westfjords of Iceland… And in march last year Fujifilm accepted me as a Fujifilm X photograper… To be an ambassador for a HUGE company… So yeah.. Going after your dreams, making difficult choices and sacrifices sometimes pays off!
But I will tell you that it was not always easy. I have had bad days and weeks… But when things kick in gear it is all worth it! These days the bookings are pouring in and January and february are fully booked… 5 music videos, product videos and photoshoots. So all in all…life is good!
I am probably repeating my self here from previous blogs but I thing some things are just that important that I want to say them many times! YOU CAN! The basic thing is to belive in yourself and surround yourself with people that believe in you too!!
But yeah… this story was supposed to be about why… So yeah.. the reason why is passion… I love my journey!
